Fade Friday – Ewin ED-47 Jeans (10 Years)

Where does the line fall on vintage? That’s something to ask Jochen in Germany who has been rocking raw denim for over six decades, one of which is in this pair of Edwin ED-47 jeans.

JoJo is no stranger to Japanese indigo either, first coming into contact with the Edwin label on a trip San Francisco in 1985. This pair started out with all the typical raw denim tropes:  tub soaking, holding off on washes, etc. But as they developed, he wore them harder and eventually relented to the washing machine for an undisclosed number of cycles.

What remains is a cosmic gumbo of thrashed and washed-out fades. The contrast developed was then all worn away evenly by the spin cycle, leaving behind an assortment of whiskers, honeycombs, and a few blowouts.

This pair is out of Jochen’s rotation but will remain in his memories as he, “will sell it to any crazy tall guy, who is willing to give me one Euro for it.” Ruedi, we know they’ve been washed, but we’re looking at you!
