Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.
I don’t know about you, but whenever I get a new gadget, I make sure to get a nice protective case or sleeve for it. Not only does this stop me from breaking it within the first week, but the personalization and desire to find the perfect style is something that I enjoy immensely. While many of us already have a way to keep our laptops safe, maybe you just got a new one in a different size or just want to switch things up—and that’s where this list comes in. While not all of these sleeves are cheap, it’s a small price to pay for piece of mind, and the great designs that they all have.
1) AmazonBasics: 15.4 Inch Felt Laptop Sleeve – Light Grey
That said, not all attractive sleeves have to cost a bundle. One of the most popular sleeves on Amazon, AmazonBasic’s 15.4 Inch Felt Laptop Sleeve, is cheap, attractive, and an all-around no-brainer if you like the felt look of it. Available in three sizes and two colors, there is a sleeve that is perfect for just about everyone. While I can’t say I’m a fan of the leather tag on the flap, that’s an easy fix with a pair of scissors—and at such a low price what’s the risk?
Available for $14 from Amazon.
2) Odeur Artefacts: Fold Laptop Case
From the least to most expensive sleeves on this list, Adeur Artefacts’ Fold Laptop Case is truly one of a kind. With its asymmetric flap, zipper and snap closure, and gorgeous looking leather, this sleeve is certainly a bit more of a statement piece than many will want for their daily drive, but it’s hard not to appreciate its design. Unfortunately, this sleeve only comes in one size, so many of us will simply be out of luck.
3) Mission Workshop: The Spec Internal Laptop Sleeve
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Mission Workshop, and if any of you are looking to get your first piece from them their Spec Internal Laptop Sleeve is a great choice that’s relatively inexpensive. It features an open-top design that can be left open when the sleeve is in your bag or secured shut when you’re carrying the sleeve on its own. While it doesn’t come in quite as many fabrics as many of their bags, it is still available in a wide range. And, multiple sizes ensures everyone who wants one of these sleeves can find one that fits.
Available for $65 from Mission Workshop.
4) Mujjo: 15″ Sleeve
Available for €62 from Mujjo.
5) Norse Projects x Head Porter: 15″ Laptop Sleeve
Head Porter always makes some interesting designs and Norse Projects is no slouch either, so it’s great to see them coming together for this 15″ Laptop Sleeve collaboration. It features an incredibly unique and highly textured exterior fabric, with the same bright orange lining that is so prevalent on many of Head Porter’s pieces. This sleeve is secured shut with a heavy-duty, YKK zipper, so you can be sure this piece will be with you for years to come.
Plus One – Bellroy: Laptop Sleeve Extra
We’ve seen a wide range of closure methods on this list: from zippers to velcro, snaps, and more. And while those will all do a fine job of keeping your laptop safe, Bellroy’s Laptop Sleeve Extra features a magnetic, flapped-leather closure that makes it that much better than the rest of the competition. And with smaller pockets to keep your charging cable and other incidentals, choose this sleeve is easy so long as the style is something you like.
