Straddle 2021 In Freenote Cloth’s Wilkes Jean In Kaihara Mills Denim

Freenote Cloth are taking the best of the West and the finest of the East to offer up the Wilkes Jeans in a hearty 14.5 oz. Kaihara selvedge denim. What is the Wilkes Jean you ask? Well, it’s a western fit. What’s a western fit? Well, we’re gonna tell ya.

It’s a fit that sits higher on the waist with adequate room in the top block so that you can swing your leg over a horse or motorcycle. It’s also got enough room at the hem to wear a Cowboy or Engineer boot but not so exaggerated that we’re in bootcut territory. The leg retains a slim straight fit and contemporary appearance but practicality is the name of the game.

A western fit keeps things clean but functional and Freenote’s Wilkes Jean does exactly that while utilizing the best hardware around and some of the best Japanese denim on the market. This Kaihara selvedge denim features an ultra-dark warp with a natural weft in a right weave with a medium slub. Designed for faster fading, the Japanese denim is only elevated further by a custom selvedge ID which is matched with the topstitching.

With a boatload more details including a two-piece waistband, tucked belt loops, flat-felled seams, and Japanese herringbone pocket bags, it’s great to see a fresh take on the classic five-pocket for 2021.
