ONI’s 622-SESR Are Heavyweight & Chock Full of Nep

Some folks like their jeans like the good old days — straight-legged and made of mid-century style denim — and some like their jeans slim, contemporary, and with a point of difference. If the latter sounds like you, these ONI 622 SESR Raw Selvedge Denim Jeans are most likely up your alley.

For this release, ONI has added even more nuance to its Secret Denim, creating the ‘Super Rough Secret Denim’. From where I’m sitting, this 20 oz. fabric looks to have all the textured blue hues of the brand’s iconic Secret Denim, but a rougher texture and shitloads of nep. It looks like a pair of ONIs were left out in a snowstorm! ONI achieves this look by weaving the denim at super low tension, using specially twisted thick yarns which contribute to an irregular, neppy weave with buckets of texture.

The 622 is ONI’s ‘relax tapered’ cut, which means it has a more generous top block than, say, a slim-tapered jean, but it still has the taper through the leg towards a narrow hem opening. This is good if you have larger thighs or butt, and want to don the tapered look whilst being comfortable and chafe-free.

Each pair of ONI 622-SESR is made in Japan and features an embossed cowhide leather waist patch, hidden rivets on the rear pockets, chain stitched hems and waistband,  and Blue in Green-exclusive plain back pockets.
